One of the major attractions in Mumbai is the "Sanjay Gandhi National Park". This Mumbai park is located only 6 km from Borivali station, also called "Borivali National Park". This forest spread in 104 sq. Km. the area has been satisfying the minds of amateur tourists for many years. About 20 lakh tourists visit here every year in Sanjay National Park which could be your best picnic spot in Mumbai.
Due to the wildlife movement in the forest, tourists are not allowed in some areas. Jungle Safaris is available using which you can spot wild animals like Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Sambar, Monkey, Snake, etc in Borivali national park
There are 8 attractions which you must explore in your visit to Borivali National Park which is located in Borivali East. Visitors may need to pay separately for each of these attractions.
Monsoon season is the best season to visit this Mumbai National Park. Rainy seasons start here from July and end near in September month. This will be the best time to visit Borivali Park when you will find greenery and a pleasant atmosphere. Request you to keep raincoats and umbrellas if you plan your visit during this season.
It may take 4-5 hours to explore all the attractions available within the park. We suggest you reach this park in the early morning (by 9 AM) so that you will get a lot of time to see all things.
Tiger & Lion Safari is one of the major attractions of Borivali National Park. This park offers the best safari rides at minimal charges using closed vehicles which are designed for safety and comfort aspects. Charges are as follows.
This is another beauty of Sanjay National Park that allows visitors to travel with their vehicles inside the park. Tourists need to pay some charges for this and follow the traffic rules and guidelines of the park.
Kanheri Caves is also called 'Kanhagiri' or 'Krishnagiri' which is a famous center and monastery of Buddhism, located 32 km from Mumbai, and 6 km from Borivali. There are over a hundred Buddhist caves that were built in the 1st century located in the middle of Sanjay National Park, Borivali East, Mumbai.
There are 2 magnificent 32 feet high Buddha statues at the entrance of the cave, and many types of Buddha meditation postures are also carved on the entrance wall. Every day thousands of tourists from many places come to see the Kanheri Caves in the National Park of Borivali.
There are 109 caves in Kanheri. The nearby Elephanta Caves are made up of elegant, luxurious, and beautiful facets. The ground in each cave is the stone foundation of the cave. It has a magnificent hall with large pillars. It also has the sacred stupa of Buddhists. Above you will find a water tank. In ancient times, large tanks were filled with rainwater.
When the caves were completed, they were transformed into monasteries, where further Buddhist activities took place. Most of the caves were used by Buddhist devotees for living, studying, and meditation. Councils are filled with large caves. Stupas were used for prayers there.
Number 3 cave is the largest cave in Borivali National Park and a large Chaitya Stupa stands here.
Visitors need to pay separately for various attractions available within Borivali Park.
