Shrimant Dagadusheth Ganapati temple is one of the most popular temples in Maharashtra. Thousands of devotees visited every year. Temple is in Budhavar Peth, 4km from the railway station, and 11km from Pune airport. It is much situated in the center of the city. Dagadusheth Ganapati temple celebrated 125 years of its Ganapati in the year 2017.

History of Dagadusheth Ganapati:

Temple was founded in 1893. Name to temple given after the name of founder “Dagadusheth Gadve” who was the Lingayat trader and popular sweet maker i.e. Halwai. The temple is a very simple and beautiful construction that all the proceeding in the temple can see Ganesh Idol from outside.

Ganesh Chaturthi and other festivals:

Temple is very popular for its lightning and decoration in the Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesh festival starts with a cortege of Ganesh idol in the early morning with traditional and most popular instruments Dhol and Tasha which played in Maharashtra. On the 4th day of the Ganesh Festival, thousands of women gather for Atharvashirsh recitation. Other than the Ganesh festival, Mango, Mogara(jasmine) and Music festival, and Shahale (coconut) Mahotsav (celebration) also celebrated by the trust every year.

Dagadusheth Ganapati Trust:

Shrimant Dagadusheth Ganapati's trust is responsible for the maintenance of the temple. Trust carries out beneficent work from the donation received from devotees. The trust runs old age homes, provides housing and education for destitute children, ambulance service, health clinic, and many more works they do. Trust also provides VIP darshan on request. Every year, trust organizes various cultural activities. Temple does not have any dedicated parking. Phones and cameras are not allowed inside the temple.

  2. If you are hungry and lover of sweet and salty snacks then you must visit the Kaka Halwai store which is very famous for its quality food. On the right side of the Kaka Halwai store, you will find a way to "Tulasi Baug" which is the most popular laddies shopping area of Pune.
  3. Lal Mahal and Shanivar Wada are also historical and popular nearby places where you can visit.

Suggestion

  1. You may see a lot of crowds on Tuesday and at weekends. Temple keeps open from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. To visit the temple, the time of early morning from 7:00 am to 10:00 am or early evening from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm is preferable.
  2. It would be great if you come with rikshaw or from the bus as the temple/trust doesn't have dedicated parking for devotees. You need to find a parking area on your own if you come to your car in busy timing.
