It is one of the smallest flora and fauna and wildlife sanctuaries in Pune district of Maharashtra, with an area of 5.14 km and occupied by grasslands and barren region areas. It is also regarded as "Mayureshwar Chinkara Sanctuary". This area was declared as a sanctuary in August 1997. It is one of the smallest .

Daund & Jejuri railway station located around 39 km & 30 km resp. You will get buses/cabs from there

Pune airport is 80 km far from this sanctuary. You will get buses or cabs from Pune airport

How to reach by Road?

Sanctuary is 74 km placed from Pune city. You can reach the there by using the Saswad-Jejuri rout.

Birdlife:

You may locate different types of bird in this sanctuary-like Indian roller, black-winged kite, Eurasian collared dove, ashy-crowned sparrow lark, Blue-cheeked bee-eater, Gray Francolin, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Common Hawk-Cuckoo, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Rufous-fronted Prinia, Indian Bush-Lark, Bay-backed Shrike, Southern Gray Shrike, etc.

Wildlife:

You may find animals like Indian Gazelle (Chinkara), Striped Hyena, Indian gray wolf, Indian Jackal, Indian Fox, and Indian Hare in the sanctuary

Best time to visit:

  1. Rainy season from July to September is the best time to photograph some of the resident wildlife species on the fresh green landscape
  2. Winter season from October to January is the best for bird-watching when you will enjoy a variety of migratory bird species.

Stay in Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary:

This sanctuary is very close to Pune and you can plan one day trip also. But if you want to stay at night and looking for camping to spot gray wolf and Indian fox, you need to take approval from the forest department.
