The historical importance of Lal Mahal:

Lal Mahal is very famous historically for an encounter between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shaista Khan who was one of general in the Mughal army. The incident happened when Shivaji Maharaj executed a surgical strike with his battalion of more than four hundred soldiers on massive Mughal army who camped in Pune and his childhood place which was occupying by Shaista Khan.  Shivaji Maharaj cut off later fingers of Shaista Khan when he was trying to escape from the window of Lal Mahal. Anyhow Shaista Khan escaped from this strike but his son was not that lucky and got killed in this incidence.

Current structure:

The current palace is the reconstruction of the original palace and rebuilds by PMC Pune which is very close to Shanivarwada which was originally seven-floored building of Peshwas  Empire. This new structure is not rebuilt in the same fashion as the original one. There is no more information about the original location, size or area, and structure of the Lal Mahal.
