Kalaram Mandir Nashik

Kalaram Mandir is an old Hindu shrine devoted to Lord Rama and one of the major points of interest in Nashik which is located in the Panchavati area. All the idols are carved out of black stone, and as a result, this vintage Nashik Panchavati temple got its name, "Kalaram", meaning black Ram.

According to ancient epic "Ramayana", Lord Rama was in exile for 14 years. After ten years of exile Lord Rama lived for two and a half years on bank of the "Godavari" near Nashik with Lakshaman and Seeta. This popular place is known as "Panchavati"

Kalaram Mandir History:

You may also like this historical styled temple which turned into reconstructed through Sardar Rangarao Odhekar (Peshawa) round 1788. It is said that, in the first Islamic attack, the oldest temples were substantially destroyed by a few Muslim rulers. It remained in the demolished situation for some years. It is also said that in a dream Odhekar saw the black shade Rama idol is present in the Godavari river. They positioned all their attempt to find the idol which they noticed in their dream and miraculously they were given success. Odhekar took the statue from the riven and build the temple which took 12 years to complete it. The wide variety of devotees visited this devotional area every year all through "Shri Ram Navami", "Rath Yatra", "Ekadashi" and "Dussehra" festivals.

Interesting facts of temple construction:

  1. Main Rama temple has "14 steps" which represent 14 year's of Ram's exile
  2. "Lord Hanuman's" temple is designed in such a manner that Lord Ram's idol can be seen from Lord Hanuman's idol
  3. Temple construction with "84 pillars" which represent the cycle of eighty-four lakh species. Everyone has to go through in an effort to get a human birth.

Things To Do/See

  1. In the temple, there is a completely antique tree that has Lord Dattatraya's footprint impressions marked on a stone.
  2. You can visit Ramkund which is a sacred bathing ghat of the Godavari river and only 500 meters away from the cave.
  3. Sita Gufa is the place in which Sita stayed when Ram and Lakshman used to go out in search of food. It is also referred to as the Panchavati cave which is best 200 meters from Ramkund.
  4. You can see "Kapaleshwar Mahadev temple" which is the best 500 meters from Kalaram Temple.
  5. "Surya Narayana Temple" which is likewise five hundred meters from Kalamar temple and located in Panchavati ghat
