Gwalior Fort

There is no concrete information about when this fort was built. There are only myths and stories. The history of the fort is 1300 years old. It is believed that in the beginning, cave temples of Jain religions were built between the 5th and 4th centuries. Among the many statues made of stones, 58 feet high statue of Adinath is famous who was the first Tirthankara of Jainism.

Gwalior has seen many kings touch the heights of success and come to the ground. It has seen the rule of many Hindu dynasties, Turks, Afghans, Mughals, Marathas, and Britishers, which hardly any other fort would have seen. The Maratha and Scindia dynasty took power at the end of the 18th century. Under their rule, Gwalior was spread over 60 thousand square kilometers. This fort remained a British post before the independence of India.

The story of the Man mandir is full of contrast. It is very beautiful from the outside, but as soon as you go down, you will enter into the dark, smelly room. This place used by Mughals as a prison. Many dark secrets are hidden in these dark rooms. Whoever threatened the Mughal Sultanate were imprisoned in the fortresses of Gwalior Fort.

Gwalior Fort is a splendid specimen of architecture that is 2.5 kilometers long and the average width is spread over about 1 kilometer. Its 12 km long walls are built on the peaks of the mountain and in most of the parts it is standing upright. Once Babar who was the first Mughal emperor of India termed this fort as the pearl of India's forts.

The secret of the grandeur of this fort is hidden in the palaces built in it. Such as the "Maan Temple" which is famous for its excellent tile work. It was built in the 14 century by Tomar Rajput King Mansingh, the great ruler of Gwalior. The royal family lived in the magnificent buildings built in and around Raja Mansingh's palace.

Inside the walls of the fort, there is a great example of the architecture of India, which represents a unique example of the construction art and craftsmanship of India.
