Historica "Aga Khan Palace" was used as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi. This Pune palace was linked to the national freedom movement of India and has a huge historical significance.
This place could be a great picnic spot for your kids and loved ones. Tourists and history lovers often come to see the magnificent architecture of the palace, greenery, Mahatma Gandhi's photos, and portraits depicting glimpses. The well-organized Aga Khan Palace is spread in 19 acres of area and located approximately 6 km from Pune railway station in Maharashtra.
Due to the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, this palace was donated to Indian peoples by Aga Khan (IV) in 1969
Palace was built in 1892 by "Sultan Mohammed Shah" (Aga Khan III) who was the 48th spiritual head of the Khoja Ismaili region. After seeing the problems of villagers who suffered from famine, Sultan decided to build the palace in order to provide employment to these villagers.
Sultan started the construction of the palace with 1000 peoples and it gets completed in five years. This palace is spread in seven acres which looks pretty cool with the well-maintained garden. At that time, it took Rs. 12 lakhs for the construction of Aga Khan Palace.
Photographers often get visited/attracted because of its special architecture, gardens, and lawns. This palace is built in Islamic and Italian style. Despite largely Islamic, you will find many arches which are build in Italian architecture styles. The palace consists of five halls and several large verandahs.
Aga Khan palace has Italian arches and spacious lawns. You can do the Pre-wedding, Maternity, and special days/moments photoshoot in this Pune palace. But you need to take prior approval by paying some additional fees on the entry gate.
Please keep in mind, the authority doesn't allow photography inside the palace. You can capture the moments using your camera/mobile outside in the front lawns of the palace.
